Dear Seniors,

My friend and I are going to start a new business. Our staff strength will be 60-70. What are the foremost things to establish a good HR department in this firm? Please advise.

I presume you are manufacturing tiles, marbles, and sanitary wares! As you have a staff strength of more than 20 persons, you have to cover your establishment under the ESI Act and EPF & MP Act and cover all eligible staff under these statutes. All other relevant licenses/permits/approvals from the Factory Inspector, Labour Inspector, Pollution Control Board, Geology Department (if applicable), Panchayat/Municipality/Corporation (as the case may be) are to be obtained. Set up a good HR department.
