Despite online filing, the employer has to keep Form 11 duly filled and signed by the employer with self-attested KYC documents for their records for future reference (EPF). Gratuity forms are offline, and the employer has to retain an office copy.

Nomination in gratuity is changeable by submitting the form. However, at the time of filing the form, the employee has to nominate one or several persons to claim the amount. Naturally, for an unmarried employee, the parents (father/mother) are the nominees, and for a married employee, the first nominee is the spouse. Such a clause arises when the employee seeks to nominate any person outside the "family" orbit. In such a situation, the employee has to clarify why he/she is doing so, to prevent any trouble for the payment authority in the court of succession.
