Hi, I am 5 months pregnant, and from the time I informed my manager about it, he has stopped giving me any work. Now, at the time of performance appraisal, he is giving me the lowest rating on the grounds of underperformance, without providing any proper reason for the same. Due to this, I might end up losing my job during this phase of my life. What should I do? Is there any way I can retain my job?

Dear member,
Though you have not stated directly, you have insinuated that your low rating is a result of your pregnancy. However, this is your perception, and unless we know the views from the other side (your Manager), it will not be proper to comment. Nevertheless, you say that you have informed your manager about your pregnancy. How did you do that? If you are an ESI employee, then approach the ESI hospital and obtain the medical certificate and submit it to your HR Department through the proper application. In case you are not an ESI employee, you may approach a private certified gynecologist, obtain the certificate, and submit it to the HR department through the proper application. This is called a "Notice for Pregnancy."
Now, coming to the rating in the Performance Appraisal (PA), how was the PA conducted? Was it conducted in a one-to-one interview or was it in absentia? Even if otherwise, I recommend you put in an application seeking clarification on your low rating. Please mention what the performance cycle was, what the KRAs were, and what the score should be. Provide adequate evidence of your performance. Address the letter to the MD of your company and route the application through the proper channel.
As of now, please do whatever is told above. Further suggestions/advice will be given depending on the shape that things take.
Thanks,
