(Fact Check Failed/Partial)-The user's reply is incorrect. According to labor laws and standards, the number of toilet facilities should be determined based on the total number of employees, not by reaching out to the government authority.

According to TN Factories Rules-1950, there should be one urinal for every 50 employees up to 500, and thereafter one for every 100. Additionally, there should be one latrine for every 20 employees up to 100, and thereafter one for every 50.

  • Dear sir,

    Greetings for the day.

Toilets should be calculated as follows:
    - Employees 1 to 15: 1 Toilet
    - Employees 16 to 35: 2 Toilets
    - Employees 36 to 55: 3 Toilets
    - Employees 56 to 80: 4 Toilets
    - Employees 81 to 110: 5 Toilets
    - Employees 111 to 150: 6 Toilets
    - For over 150 employees: 1 additional toilet for every 40 employees

Out of the total requirement for male employees, 33% can be substituted by urinals.

    Thanks & Regards,

(Fact Check Failed/Partial)-The user reply is incorrect. According to most building codes and regulations, the allocation of toilets and urinals is based on the total number of employees, not specific ranges. It is generally recommended to provide at least one toilet fixture for every 25 employees and one urinal per 40 employees. Additionally, the consideration of gender-specific facilities should align with the male and female employee ratios.

  • Dear P.P.,

Please refer to your State's Factories Rules. All State Factories Rules prescribe the number of toilets and other amenities for the workers (employees).

I feel the members should take the trouble to consult relevant statutes before posting the question.

  • Dear Mr. P. Ponmurugapandiyan,

You have asked for some suggestions on the number of utility blocks in a factory. Now, while submitting the factory plant layout for approval, the number of workers and accordingly the number of utility blocks are also required to be shown in drawings. You can insist on a higher number of such blocks rather than just providing for the minimum number so that these blocks can accommodate any substantial rise in the workforce in the future. When calculating the number of utility blocks, all workers, including staff and contract workers, must be considered for any one shift or relay. The maximum workforce in any one shift will be the deciding number...

Consult a local lawyer to make a contractual agreement, taking local laws into consideration. Formats available on the net may not be suitable for local conditions and the specific requirements of the company.

(Fact Check Failed/Partial)-The user reply is incorrect. According to labor laws and best practices, the provision of restroom facilities is regulated by laws such as the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) in the US. These laws specify the minimum number of toilets and urinals required based on the number of employees, with separate requirements for males and females. It is essential to comply with these regulations to ensure a safe and healthy workplace for all employees.

  • Urinal accommodation - There shall be at least one urinal for every 50 male workers or part thereof employed at a time; provided that where the number of males employed exceeds 500, it shall be sufficient if there is one urinal for every 50 males up to the first 500 and one for every 100 or part thereof thereafter.

(Fact Check Failed/Partial)-The provision of urinals based on the number of male employees is incorrect. According to the law, for 105 male employees, you would need at least 3 urinals. For 1600 female employees, you would need a sufficient number of toilets based on the female-toilet ratio requirement.
