Dear Sir/Madam,

Is there an option to list out the members on Citehr.com? Can we see a list of members in one place? I am certain that a few of my colleagues are active members on Citehr.com. I just wanted to view their activity. Is there a way to do that?

Please guide.

Thanks

I am sure you will appreciate that there are privacy concerns with a suggestion such as yours. Not everyone wants to be known online. I, like many others I suspect, do not use my real name here. I do not reveal my real name on the net for privacy reasons, but also for reasons of people wanting to check up on my activities, such as on Facebook, etc. As many people are now finding out, they are losing job opportunities because employers are now looking for bad information about them on the net. Maybe in India, people are not concerned about privacy; I don't know. I do know that many younger people in the world today are totally unaware that they are causing themselves great harm by revealing too much on the net. Once something appears on the net, it is there forever. You can connect with your friends simply by asking them if they are members of CiteHR. If they are not, then why not suggest they take a look at the site and consider joining us.

Only people like me, above 60, who have run out of career fuel and are while away time on various sites can afford to reveal our true identity. Of course, we get away with it since we have no axe to grind, nor have any expectations from anybody!

I am also above 60, and while I agree with you in principle, I still think I would like to retain my anonymity for a bit longer!! Maybe, I am just naturally a fairly private person.

Dear all,

This is a professional forum, not a social forum. Please use Facebook or any other platform to keep in touch with friends. It may be embarrassing for a newcomer to ask a question under their own name. The organization where they work may view it negatively. Enjoy the contents of the forum and focus on professional connections rather than personal friendships.

Blessings,
Dr. Ram

I think that even when the complete list of citeHR members is provided, I doubt very much that the purpose of asking for such a list will be served. This is because I find that most of the members contribute or are known here by their chosen fictitious names and email IDs, except for a few. The reason for such anonymity is understandable. Many of our members narrate their personal experiences and the environment prevailing in their workplaces, either in support or otherwise. Probably, if they are known in their true identity, they may have to face certain avoidable inconveniences. Therefore, there is no need to provide a complete list of citeHR members as desired. Moreover, this is primarily a knowledge-sharing site, and as many have pointed out, if the purpose is for socializing and developing contacts, there are various other sites available in plenty on the World Wide Web. The members may try those sources.

The basic objective of getting the names of HRs is not understood from the thread starter, Devibala. One thing I could interpret is that she wants to know who all in her team are active members of citehr. This can be known just by asking them which all professional websites they follow or simply asking ‘do you follow citehr.com which is considered to be the number one webportal of HR professionals’. In you really want to get the list of HRs, I believe some one had posted a list of HR heads in various companies in India and that may be useful to Devibala.

Just by reading the posts of a person especially in a site like citeehr, I don’t think that a person could be blacklisted by his superior. It may be true in the case of some conservative managers but if you take it as in its wider sense you will not find anything wrong. I have been associated with citehr for the last eight years, I think and I have been using my name as avtar or username all these times. I have never come across with such a situation that the MD/CEO blames me for writing in favour of workers and their rights under labour laws. Still I will not recommend the budding HRs to take a chance because there may be bosses who scratches everything of their subordinates. This may be true in the case of persons in HR or Personnel departments. If you take in in the other way, you may find a lot of presentations of your boss coming from citehr! This happened to me when I was invited to attend a session on industrial relations, the resource person unknowingly was presenting the entire ppt which was posted by me in this site some three or four years back!! That means your boss may be taking help from citehr but you are not allowed to do this!

Excuse me, all! I think the thread is moving in a different way! Let me make it very clear. I just requested whether there is a provision to see a list that shows the members. I never asked for a list of members in CiteHR to be shared with me. If there is a provision to see a list, we can always get to know, I guess. I have come across many junior and senior-level persons who exchange thoughts and always referred to CiteHR as a major HR tool. Hence, I wished to see members of different levels. That is all and not to chit-chat with any friends as everyone values their time and efforts. Moreover, I am very well aware that this is a professional website that has a different section "General Discussion" wherein we can share jokes and other stuff. Thank you once again for exchanging thoughts. With Best Regards

Hi all, Professional forum like CiteHR may be used for more professional growth, instead of personal or social. People like me seek at seniors for guidance in this forum. Let it be like that.

Yes, I agree with Dr. Vram. Since the request of showing all members' listing is out of the subject and deviates from the forum's objective of sharing knowledge, please avoid using it. It is my humble prayer that you connect with everyone as your well-wishers professionally. Sorry if anyone was hurt by my reply.

Ravi.

Interesting discussion, though I think hers was a question (whether such a feature existed) and not really a demand (bring in such a feature).

Making user lists accessible will make them vulnerable to spam campaigns too. Much better this way.

Privacy on the net is an illusion but I would still like to preserve it. Giving out additional details beyond what is given in the forum would not be a good idea.

Dear Devibala,

I have not come across any consolidated list. In my experience of interacting in Cite HR, it is possible to get in touch with any individual provided that person has contributed to a thread by starting or by participation. By design, in Cite HR, there are various segments like HR, Training, Talking to Seniors, etc., and once you browse topics of your choice, you can get in touch with another member through the forum. The present arrangement is providing enough avenues.

Dear Devibala,

Normally, everyone is interested in maintaining anonymity to secure their privacy as well as their livelihood. If you have any specific requirements regarding your subject, please select the concerned forum and raise your query in a new thread. I am sure that if your query is genuine, you will receive an adequate and correct reply.

Furthermore, four years ago, a Mr. Venkat asked us to like his page with the promise of sending useful materials. Many of us, in utmost good faith, liked his page, only to have him track everyone's email addresses and start sending photos, jokes, and other irrelevant materials on a daily basis. Additionally, there was no provision to unsubscribe from these emails. I hope everyone started deleting the emails upon seeing the sender's name, as I have done. Nowadays, we receive rare emails from him. This not only consumes our mobile data but also results in important emails not being received properly due to lack of space or insufficient data availability on mobile devices.

If you wish to contact us for any personal reason, please send a private message so that our friends can contact you without fail.

Thank you.

Dear Mr. Bhaskar and Raghunathan Sir,

Thank you for your kind reply. I just inquired whether it is possible. We could have easily understood if somebody like Raghunathan Sir had informed us that it is not possible. Thanks, though. It's a good lesson in life that our words and intentions may be interpreted in different ways. I have been using CiteHR for over 10 years, and it was surprising to note different perspectives.

This is the only platform that has helped and is helping my career to grow professionally. I am always thankful to all the people who share their experiences and guidance.

With Best Regards,

I would like to thank Devibala for the kind words about citeHR and its usefulness. I am not an Admin of citeHR, but my hunch is that listing is possible with all the software available nowadays. However, for obvious reasons, it cannot be shared. If Devibala ji's query is limited to knowing "if it is possible?" I believe it can be answered in that way. At the same time, it has already been clearly stated that "it is not possible" to share in as many words. Devibala ji need not feel discouraged or anything else. If the intentions had been mentioned at the initial stages, discussions would not have gone this far, I think. Nobody is trying to find fault for raising the query. All is well.

Devibala,

You have been a member of CiteHR for close to 6 years. I am sure that if any of your friends are also CiteHR members, they would have found you by now.

In a similar vein, as you are a long-standing member and regularly follow postings on the site, there is a good chance that you would have found some of your friends and colleagues if they are members.

I would reiterate my previous advice. Ask your friends and colleagues if they are members, and if not, encourage them to join us.

I am sure it is possible for the owner of CiteHR to produce such a list, but once again, I would remind you that there are privacy issues here. I suspect it would be necessary for every member to give explicit permission to be included in such a list. In any case, many members (such as me) use aliases, so there would be no value in the list anyway.

In addition, you could post a message asking for any other Madras members to contact you. There may also be a Madras CiteHR local group already in existence. Could any other Madras members post a message regarding this?
