We want to comply with the provisions of the Labour Welfare Fund from this year. We are collecting the details of persons in respect of whom payment has to be made. If we make the payment by cheque now by sending it to the concerned official, do we need to add any interest for the delay or request a waiver on receipt of any demand from the department? Kindly elucidate with any notification/provisions in this regard.

Hi,
As per the Tamil Nadu Labour Welfare Fund Act of 1972, the interest or penalty provisions are stated in Section 14. However, these provisions do not apply to delays in the contribution of LWF. They are specifically for 'Unpaid Accumulations' or fines after receiving a notice of demand.
Therefore, if you are making the payment for LWF contributions (Rs. 7/- + Rs. 14/-) for the year 2013, you can pay the amount without incurring any penalties.
If you require assistance with the remittance of payment, please feel free to write to us.
Thank you.
