It's a good idea, but I don't think the company should let the employee choose their gift. It's always better that everyone gets the same gift for standardization.
:) :) Just my thoughts !! Even we get sweets, Archana :)
But I fail to understand one thing. Why do companies only give sweets or gifts for Diwali? Why not other religious festivals? We never get sweets or gifts for Christmas or Eid. What's so special about Diwali? People burn money, and the city is extra polluted. Just a thought! I don't intend to hurt or harm anyone with my reply.

Dear Gourishankar,
We are not fully in agreement with your opinion because such festivals represent joy and spread light in our own lives and the lives of others. As for your opinion regarding pollution, there are also harmful mosquitoes in the surrounding air, and fireworks can help control them.

Dear Brad,
In India, across all states, the primary festival celebrated by the majority of the population is Diwali/Deepavali. Christmas and Eid are only celebrated by a minor percentage of people. Diwali is known as the festival of light.
The use of crackers during Diwali is primarily to provide livelihood to the firework workers who are engaged in their production.
Indian culture has its roots in riverside villages. In these villages, there are various individuals, including business people with stable incomes. However, those involved in making crackers also need to earn a living. Thus, this festival serves as a means to support them. Similarly, once a year, small clay lamps are used to illuminate the lives of the clay lamp makers. Each festival has its own unique benefits for different groups.
For instance, Pongal is celebrated in Tamil Nadu, benefiting clay pot makers. On this day, the entire village purchases pots and cooks sweet rice in these newly acquired vessels. In Assam, a similar celebration known as "BIHU" takes place.
In the Indian tradition, every morning, women draw designs (Kolam) using rice flour at the house entrance to feed ants and other insects. After preparing the morning meal, food is offered to crows before the household members eat. This practice is for feeding the birds. At night, leftover food is given to dogs that guard the property while the residents rest. These customs reflect our culture.
The gifts provided by companies during festive seasons aim to bring joy to their employees and serve as a morale-boosting and retention strategy.
Best regards,

I am sorry for the remarks! But I thought we have only professional and broad-minded people in this forum. At the beginning, I stated that these are my thoughts and I mean no harm. Please scroll up and read it again. So, I too would suggest that people stop giving unwanted gyan and learn to respond appropriately.
