Dear Friends,
I have completed a BE in Mechanical (2008) and an MBA in HR (2010). Presently, I am working with an MNC as an HR Executive (Generalist) for the past 8 months. I am looking forward to establishing myself in the Airforce in the HR/Admin domain. What are the minimum educational qualifications/maximum age requirements? What should be my action plan? Kindly advise. I have searched through the internet but have been unable to find a proper solution. Please help!

Dear Arun,
I would suggest getting into the Air Force in an officer grade; a technical entry can be the best fit for you, subject to other terms (education, age, SSB, etc.). For various entries, you can view the above-mentioned web address as rightly suggested by Giridhar. Later on, you can try to get into SSB/CDA/AHQ Personal wing through specific courses and successful completion of them. Government organizations altogether need a different approach and not just another job hopping.

Thank you for your kind responses!
But the maximum age limit seems to be 25-26 years (as found on the Air Force website). I am already 25 now. How should I prepare myself? Will there be any vacancies for experienced individuals? How do I move forward? Advice.

No Arun, there is no age relaxation in defense services except for war widows/kin. If you are above the age for general administration/engineers entry, then you can try their education/legal/judicial entries where the age, I assume, is close to 30+ years to make an entry. However, you need to be qualified as a PG/LLB/LLM graduate and also need to clear an SSB.

Dear Arun,
If you prefer to join the IAF, then it is advisable to select the Mechanical stream instead of the Admin Branch.
The latest press release from the [Official website of the Indian Air Force](http://indianairforce.nic.in/) states:
IAF SEEKS ASPIRING AIR WARRIORS IN OFFICER CADRE
New Delhi: June 19, 2011
The Indian Air Force (IAF) is looking for eligible Indian graduates and post-graduates, both men and women, to join the force as commissioned officers in the branches of flying, engineering, and ground duties upon completion of their respective courses, commencing in July 2012.
To qualify, candidates must pass the Air Force Common Admission Test (AFCAT), scheduled for August 28, 2011 (Sunday), to be held in 57 different cities across the country.
The deadline for submitting applications at AFCAT cells in any of the seven IAF Command Headquarters of Eastern (Shillong), Western (New Delhi), Central (Allahabad), South Western (Gandhinagar), Southern (Thiruvananthapuram), Maintenance (Nagpur), and Training Command (Bangalore) is July 11.
All eligibility criteria are provided on the [IAF website](http://www.careerairforce.nic.in).
For males, courses are available for Short Service Commission (SSC) in the flying, technical, and ground duty branches. Males can also opt for Permanent Commission (PC) through the Aeronautical Engineers Course (Electronics or Mechanical) and Ground Duty Officers Course (Administration & Logistics, Accounts, Meteorology, and Education).
For female aspirants, only SSC is offered in the branches of flying, engineering, and ground duties.
The training duration for flying and technical branches is 74 weeks, while ground duty branches training lasts for 52 weeks.
PC in the flying branch is currently only possible through the UPSC route - for NDA (National Defence Academy) graduates and those qualifying CDSE (Combined Defence Services Examination).
The engagement period for SSC in the flying branch is 14 years from the date of commissioning and is non-extendable. SSC officers in technical and ground duty branches will have an initial tenure of 10 years, with a possible extension of four years based on willingness, service requirements, and vacancy availability. PC officers will serve until superannuation.
Qualifying AFCAT will allow aspirants to undergo further testing at one of the Air Force Selection Boards (AFSB) in Dehradun, Mysore, or Varanasi. At AFSB, candidates will undergo intelligence and other tests, followed by psychological and group tests, including an interview.
Aspiring pilots will take the Pilot Aptitude Battery Test (PABT) to determine their suitability to be a military aviator. For technical branches, passing the Engineering Knowledge Test (EKT) is mandatory. Both tests are conducted at the AFSBs.
Successful candidates will undergo a medical examination at either the Air Force Central Medical Establishment (AFCME) in New Delhi or the Institute of Aerospace Medicine (IAM) in Bangalore.
Ten percent of vacancies are reserved for NCC Air Wing 'C' certificate holders.
Newly commissioned officers will receive gross monthly emoluments of Rs. 57,352 for flying, Rs. 48,602 for technical, and Rs. 46,102 for ground duty branches.
Additionally, benefits offered by the IAF include furnished accommodation, comprehensive medical cover, leave entitlement (60 days annual and 20 days casual), travel concessions, entitled rations, canteen and officers' mess facilities, insurance cover of Rs. 50 lakh, and an additional Rs. 3.5 lakh for flying branch officers.
Stay tuned for the next advertisement, which will be released in the next 2 to 5 months. Apply, succeed, and serve the nation.
All the best.
