Hi Tonie,

There is no rule that says you can't get a job at 49. However, having said that, at your age, getting into a professionally run company looks very remote as they have their employment criteria, and one of the important parameters is the age factor.

However, there are many family-run companies and growing setups like builders and companies located in industrial belts that are a little away from the bigger cities who would be more than happy to hire someone with the right experience and someone who can be effective. What is essential is to justify your 2-year break and the rationale for them employing you at your age. Ideally, go through a reference or meet the HR in person because sending the biodata means there is a high probability of it being trashed based on age criteria.

Be optimistic and approach the challenge with confidence.

Best wishes

Dear Tonie,

Experience always counts. Age restrictions may apply to government jobs but are not typically seen in companies, corporations, and non-profit organizations. So, don't be discouraged.

Hi Tonie,

Yes, to a certain extent, as there would be too many professionals competing for few positions at a senior level. However, if you are conceptually sound and have proven experience, it should not be difficult. GOD BLESS.

Dear Senior,

As a consultant, I can assure you that 49 is an acceptable age and, to an extent, a preferred age for some functions, especially within project companies. Some of the areas that can be an easy hunt for you are telecom project companies (TSP's), power and energy sector, manufacturing (plant administration and general functions). These are favored spots for retired ex-servicemen and the re-employed category.

Your hunt also depends on your past professional experience, individual domain expertise, and industry references. You can forward your detailed profile to us at info@propellantconsultants.co.in.
