Employee engagement is key to organizational success. The elements that define engagement include emotional aspects, like taking pride in working for a company, and rational aspects, like understanding how your job fits into 'the bigger picture'. These elements wear out when employees become disengaged. They become indifferent and begin to put in less effort. Employees start to question the seriousness of their corporation, creating a serious risk for the organization.

Hi Seniors,

Can you please explain to me what activities are involved in employee engagement? I recently interviewed for a position in the BPO industry, and the interviewer asked me about my understanding of employee engagement. I mentioned resolving employee queries related to salary, ESI, and PF. However, he inquired about other aspects as well.

Could you please provide some insights on this matter?

Hi Narinder,

Though I'm not a senior, I would like to add a few more points to your posting on Employee Engagement. Employee Engagement means being more precise about the factors that motivate and demotivate the team, along with identifying the factors that inspire them to work to their full potential so that we can get the best out of them.

Employee Engagement activities could include:
1. Employees' suggestion system.
2. Annual staff awards.
3. Conducting soft skills training programs.
4. Celebrating employees' birthdays.
5. Maintaining health and safety standards.
6. Allowing employees to be a part of management discussions.
7. Providing more opportunities for employees to self-direct themselves.
8. Listening to employees' ideas and selecting the best ones for implementation.
9. Making management more transparent.
10. Providing coaching to employees to enhance their work efficiency.
11. Supporting the community and environment where employees live.
12. Implementing an Employee Engagement questionnaire to align with the organization's objectives.

For all these initiatives, HR needs to design the training pattern.
