Dear all, good morning.
I am doing a PhD on competency mapping and very shortly I have to submit my synopsis as well. However, even after a thorough search, I am confused about which topic I should consider in competency mapping as it is equally useful in recruitment and selection, job analysis, retention, performance appraisal, succession planning, etc. Additionally, how should I formulate the research problem and objectives of my PhD research?
I seriously need your valuable advice on this.
Thanks & regards,
Mohini

Dear Mohini,
You have to formulate the problem and objectives based on the following points. Where is the gap in the knowledge bank? That is an area that is not adequately researched and published. What area do you really feel passionate about? An area that you can get a supervisor interested in. An area where you can get access to do primary research. You can see my profile at by clicking on "About Us".
Have a nice day. Please also see my post on Guidelines for PhD and Research methodology.

Dear Mohini,
I apologize for sharing my problem amidst yours. I really wish to pursue a PhD in Human Resources, but I don't have much idea about which university offers this course. Could you please help me out?
Thanks in advance.

Dear Mohini,
I have little experience in HR, i.e., around 2 years. However, for the last 6 months, we have been trying to implement this concept. Based on my experience, we felt the need for this because there was a significant gap between employee qualifications and their ability to handle a specific job. Due to this, there was dissatisfaction among employees, and it also impacted the job performance. One more thing, if we have competency mapping charts based on designations, it will help in hiring the right person for the right job.
Thanks,
Himali
