In my opinion, you should have started with some positive points about yourself, such as "I am an enthusiastic and goal-oriented human being," and then could have added information about what you are currently doing and your future ambitions.

Re: Confusing Question... My thoughts on your question are as follows:

According to me, the first answer to this question is "I am a human being." Here, the interviewer wishes to know whether you are aware of the "Self Concept." It is very essential to know your own "self"; only then can you understand others.

By self, it means to be "aware" of your Physical Self, Psychological Self, Social Self, Intellectual Self, etc.

The 5 Ws should be known: Who am I, What am I, How, Where, and Why. To elaborate further, it is essential to know and be aware of your attitudes, beliefs, habits, your thoughts, emotions, behavior, your reactions, impulses, etc. It is a whole gamut of "Self-Awareness," which is a very interesting and challenging topic.

I hope this brief information would enable you to "think" further and gain more knowledge about yourself.

Thanks and all the best,

I assume that you have gone for a job interview. Keep it simple and straight. Give your name. I'm sure the interviewer would have more questions to know more about you. I think we (or you, rather) are reading too much into the question. Please let the interviewer enjoy the interview session with simple, straight answers which prompt him to improvise on his questions while he is getting interesting answers from you. A "soul-searching" answer would leave him searching for a lot of detail, and that would weaken your chances of getting selected. Hope it helps! Praveen Kumar Kambhampati

If the person sitting on a chair asked you "Who are you?"... then probably you entered the wrong cabin for the interview! And if it was during the course of the interview, then probably the person's mind went blank with amnesia or temporary loss of memory or permanent memory loss. In whichever case, your interview is over at that point, and you better walk off!

This is a question that may seem trivial, but rather than dismissing it, we should acknowledge and address it. It is possible that the interviewer was not very comfortable with English, leading to a misinterpretation of his viewpoint.

This same question was asked by Plato on the death of Socrates a great Greek philosopher. The answer given by all the people was, I am teacher, I am goldsmith, I am minister, I am money lender etc... Then Plato told that is the reason why Socrates died, if there were human being there Socrates would be still alive. Hence if this question (who are you?) is put before me I will say "I am first Human Being, humble, easily approachable, friendly and sincere person. I am a qualified Company Secretary with 9 years post qualification experience. I am well versed with Corporate Laws, Property Laws and general legal compliances…….”

Dear all,

This is not a confusing question, but a very straightforward one. What you are supposed to do is to identify yourself - mention your full name, age, marital status, give your historical background in terms of your early education attended up to the higher level, past jobs, and any work experience. Ultimately, you are required to summarize your CV or resume.

My friend, when you are given such a general question, it is an opportunity or room for you to market yourself.

Thank you and have a nice day.

when faced with such a question one should not say about one’s parentage..rather he should emphasize on his views on the purpose of life, mission, values and goals
