Hi Choudary,
Even I am in the same position. Recently, I have joined as an Executive - HR in a chemical factory. I am the first and only HR here. As a fresher, I am unable to get clarity about my roles and responsibilities. If you get any information regarding this, please suggest to me.

Dear Choudary & Srilakshmi, you need to understand that it is not just the role and goal you need to know; it is the Key Result Areas (KRA) you should focus on. Again, don't you have a line manager or a senior person above you in the HR department? If so, he or she would be able to assign the KRA to your tasks. If you still have specific doubts, feel free to message me.

I am an HR fresher with one year of experience in operations. I want to start a career in HR. Could you please share your experience as an HR fresher during interviews in MNCs? What kind of questions were asked, what skillset did they look for, and how was the salary negotiation round? How did you answer them? Please reply as I am currently preparing for interviews. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

You need to be clearer on the goals. Are you referring to your personal career goals or the goals for the position you currently hold?
Personal Career Goals
If it is your personal goal, you should map out a plan for yourself on how you wish to progress in your career. Your current role in a company will also play a major part in achieving your personal goals.
Goals for Your Current Position
If these are goals for your current position, they should ideally align from the top, starting with your line manager or department goals. Then, you can assess the areas of expertise expected from you and tailor your performance accordingly.
I understand this is a brief explanation. To delve deeper, you must have a clear understanding of what you are aiming for.

First thing you should remember is a HR person is for employees. Don’t act like becuase of you employees are there. It is other way. If no employees then no HR needed.

Understanding the Role of HR
HR person is for employees - wow, I didn't know that, thanks a ton.
You are kind of saying something against the definition of HR. Let me give you a simple and basic class...
HR refers to Human Resource Management; it's about managing the Human Capital of an organization. An HR department is a specialized function that provides consulting to the line managers in managing their teams. Yes, the HR department does offer other services such as employee relations and grievance handling, which are to act as a third party between the line managers and the employees.
Please answer, why shouldn't an HR think about his/her career goals, even though they are employees? HR folks work for the Organization, which comprises management, line managers, and the employees - They are not just focused on employees. Employee Relations and Employee Development are just two of their functions.
