Hi,

I did see a list of public holidays mentioned for Tamil Nadu State government. We are a private limited software company and come under the shops and establishments act. Is there any particular list for this? Also, is there any minimum number of holidays that need to be declared?

Thanks in advance.

Yes, there are four holidays that need to be declared every year. Details of the holidays are given below:

- 26th January
- 1st May Labour Day (in case of a manufacturing unit)
- 15th August
- 2nd October

Hope this information is helpful.

Dear Shaleo,

Persons employed in shops and commercial establishments in Tamil Nadu are entitled to, in addition to earned leave, sick leave, and casual leave at the rates specified in the Tamil Nadu Shops and Establishments Act. They are also entitled to holidays on 26th January, 1st May, 15th August, and 2nd October, along with five other holidays for festivals to be prescribed by the Inspector under the Tamil Nadu Shops and Establishments Act. The Inspector will prescribe the festival holidays in consultation with the employer and employees.
