Hi,

If an employee is terminated for poor performance, do we issue a termination letter only, or is a relieving letter/experience letter also issued? With a termination letter, the employee may face challenges in securing employment with another company. Recently, many employees have been let go by major companies like TCS, IBM, and Yahoo. How is this situation typically handled? Please share your experience with me.

Hi,

Termination is done due to underperformance or other issues with the employee(s). There is no need to issue any other letter(s); just a termination letter is enough. Alternatively, if management is concerned about the terminated employee's career, they may convert this termination into a resignation.

You can follow the full exit procedure with minimal feedback to the respective employee.
