The internship is of two types i.e freshers and students.
The freshers under internship needs to be paid because they are the employees but under training. The non-payment is considered illegal under the law.
The students are doing internship is nothing but part of their educational syllabus, are not required to be paid. But many industry and business house pay on a good will gesture, if unpaid can't be considered illegal. The internships under any law for the freshers needs to be paid internships stipend, the startups are not an exception.
