Why do companies recruit safety officers?

The employers and national governments have a duty to protect their people and employees. Therefore, the government insists that industries prevent accidents by appointing highly qualified safety officers who have been verified through government-approved occupational health and safety training course certificates.

Appointment of Safety Inspectors is a statutory requirement as per the Factories Act 1948, and the prevention of accidents is only one of the duties. As per Section 40B of the Act, the duties and responsibilities shall be given in the State Rules, and they can be consulted to get the full picture.
