Dear Friend,
The employee is eligible to avail the benefit of the EDLI scheme. There is no minimum limit of service to avail the EDLI benefit. An employee can avail the benefit from day 1 of being a member of the EPFO scheme.
1. It covers the death of an employee irrespective of the cause.
2. Every employee who is a member of the Provident Fund gets covered under EDLI.
3. The coverage is for 24 hours and is not related to working hours.
4. The coverage is worldwide; being at the workplace is not necessary.
5. There are no exclusions under this policy.
6. The insurance coverage is linked to the employee's pay.
7. The coverage and premium are similar for every employee. Age or any individual factor does not affect it.

Dear CGM,
You should describe your organization, nature, and place of business, number of employees, etc. It's not clear, so a clear answer cannot be posted. Please take adequate care for your future posts hereafter.
For claims of various benefits under EPF/EPS and also under ESIC or the Employee Compensation Act, the employee concerned needs to be made a member only. There is a death benefit of Rs. 50,000 available immediately. I hope you have completed the nominations procedure on day one. Please obtain the death certificate and submit/forward applications for Pension and EDLI before the RPFC. If he is covered under ESI, his dependants will be entitled to Pension as well. In case ESI is not applicable, please ensure that his dependents receive the prescribed death compensation caused due to an accident. In fact, these are real HR works!
