I am working with a PSU(Under Central Government). One of the women employees had availed Maternity Leave of Six Months and after completion of Maternity Leaves, she had further extended her leaves. During the appraisal year 2017-18, she didn't work for three months and hence her appraisal was not done. Just wanted to know how to do performance appraisal in such cases? What is the rule ?

Dear Madam,
What is Performance Appraisal? Employee who has performed satisfactorily during the appraisal period. Here this lady has worked hardly for 3 months and still expects hike in salary.
I think now a days employees are considering organisations as a Charitable Trusts where they can expect favour / donations.
One has to think what is his or her contribution towards the organisation first and then expect reward.
When there was 12 weeks ML, 1 month extension was permissible on medical ground with doctor's certification / recommendation. Now there is an amendment of 6 months ML still people are having problem.
Rules are made to meet justified demands of workmen / public which we should respect. And then we should think in that direction by which no one will get dissatisfied.
Please note that I have no intention to hurt anyone's feelings, this is my personal opinion.
(At our homes when maid servant ask for some hike in her salary or bonus during Diwali, we look for another person in her place, because it pinches us but this is not applicable to Co.)
Regards,
Suresh

Thank you for your replies.
I want to ask Sri Prabhat is it mandatory to consider as per her previous ratings?
Is there any DPE Guidelines? Just wanted to understand so that we can make changes in our rule itself for Maternity Leave. As we are PSU, we have to follow certain guidelines.

Regarding appraisal there is no statute in India. Company can take appropriate policy. Varghese Mathew

well said Priya, For the central Government employees there are laid down written procedures; than you are to follow them instead looking outside.
