The Standing Orders are contained in the schedule appended to the Industrial Employment(Standing Orders) Act 1946.They are called model standing orders. For industries falling under State control, the respective States frame model standing orders for them. The standing orders Act is applicable to factories and other industrial establishments employing 100 or more workmen. However, some States like Maharashtra applied it to even establishments employing 50 or more workmen. These model standing orders are nothing but service conditions of workmen covering subjects like probation, confirmation, leave, discipline and retirement etc. Once covered by the Act, the establishment shall frame the standing orders in terms of the model standing orders and get them certified by the Certifying officer. Till, then the model standing orders will apply to the establishments. It is mandatory

Dear Knowledge-Seeker,

Your Query: " I want to know the thumb rule of standing order and it’s functions. it is applicable for which establishment or Industry? Can it mandatory for the establishment?"

Answer: " Standing Orders mean and include the Orders/Rules/Regulations/Guideposts/ SOP which 'define with sufficient precision" the Terms of Employment applicable to an Industrial Establishment.

Standing Orders Draft, as per the provisions of theIndustrial Employment (Standing Orders) Act 1946 and amendments thereto, have to be submitted to the Certifying Officer by each covered Establishment for Certification and Adoption/adherence.

Standing Orders helps the Employer and theEmployed Person, both, to exactly and accurately know "the Boundary Lines" drawn by the Law

Best part is that the Certified SOs streamline / Spell Out the Processes, the Work, the Workers Duties, and Responsibilities and Workplace Conduct and Behavior, Fairly, Properly and therefore must be observed Faithfully.

The S Os sets forth the Work Ethos and the Organization/s Work Culture, is and Remains Helpful and removes Unhelpful Work Practices and or Restrictive Work Practices which in absence of Faithful Implementation of the SOs are found to flourish.

Growing Productivity is the Chief By-Product of Earnes Observance of CSO, Undoubtedly.

Team Kritarth is always ready and willing to help in such matters.
