Which sector does your firm belong to? Even though the base might remain static, the policy would differ depending on the sector. Police verification isn't a must for every role, but in the service sector, a client-facing role needs it.
Background verification is essentially a process to validate the data provided by the candidate and is not an investigation into his or her past. Checks on social footprints are subjective. Power or manufacturing might not be sensitive to it, whereas an employee sharing details on Facebook might pose a threat to banks and other service sectors.
