Hi,
I have been working in an private sector (educational ) for the last 09 years. I am in administration and been handling all administrative work. I am a commerce graduate & now pursuing PGDBA in Operations and MBA in operations . Now, I think that I should move to another field because being a female, people have a general mindset that women can’t do administrative work well. Even my boss also has the same view to my work. I handle all records both manually & technically, keep on eyes on all utilities, prepare Purchase, Work orders, communicate with vendors regarding utilities, look after timely payment etc. BUT no one value this work.
Now, I think I should change my specialization in MBA. I have a keen interest in Data analysis work as I have done Oracle also from NIIT but not practiced it as I don’t work on it in my daily work profile.
Hence, Pls. suggest what should I do. Should I switch to another job in another section i.e. HR or any other Or continue with my admn. work . If I do SAP in coming future, which stream should I go to. Operations or HR or Finance.
Pls. advise.
Regards,

Dear SHRSM,
Adding qualification after qualification may not fetch you a good job. Nine years is too long a period in one sector. You could have moved out long ago. From Administration, you can move to Purchase Management or Operations Management. In either field, your MBA (Ops) will come in handy.
By the way, it should be noted that Education is a little softer industry and not as rugged as other industries. Therefore, be prepared for not just hard work but work with proper commercial sense.
Administration is not bad per se. I have seen cases wherein the Head Admin is paid Rs 25-30L per annum for a chain of malls. The same is the case in IT or BPO sectors as well.
To develop your career, you need to make a proper career plan. If you wish to avail yourself of my (paid) services, then you may approach me.
All the best!
