Hi all,

I'm working as an HR Executive in a BPO since last July '11. I joined here as a Fresher, so I was getting paid a very low salary as per the company standard. Even though I was not on the company's payroll. In April 2012, my senior left the organization, so I was the only one who could handle the HR department. I started working and gave my best, but at that time, I was appraised for a $1500 increase after requesting it based on my previous low salary. I hoped that this time I would be put on the company's payroll, but the management didn't do so. However, due to my studies, I didn't leave the job.

Now, it's appraisal time again, but this time they only increased it by $1000 based on my previous salary, which is not up to the mark. I was expecting to be put on the payroll this time, but it has not been decided yet, as they mentioned they will discuss it later.

My main problem now is only the salary. If I'm taking care of all HR departments, then it's obvious I should be appraised. I'm feeling frustrated now.

What should I do now? I don't want to leave the organization as it has given me the opportunity to grow.

Please help me out with this problem...!!!

Hi Vikas,

I suggest you search for a job and quit. When the company is not paying well according to your experience and work, then I say they are not valuing your work. We work hard for the company, thinking that they gave us the opportunity to "LEARN," but when it comes to career growth, they won't do anything. In your case, they still kept you as an Off-roll employee after you did so much. So, I suggest you search for a good job.

Dear Shalini,

Thank you for your valuable advice. I am currently looking for a job, but the main issue I am facing is that I have not graduated yet. I am pursuing my graduation. I have attended interviews, but due to being an undergraduate, companies are unable to hire me. Therefore, I am hopeful that I will secure a job soon.

Kind regards,

Dear Vikas,

What is your priority, salary, or growth?

As you have mentioned that you have not completed your graduation, it is highly unlikely that you will grow in terms of position to a very high level. After gaining hands-on experience of the activities, your job would be to focus on strategies and policies rather than doing day-to-day clock-like work. I would suggest that you stick to the company you are working for right now. Gain experience and try to complete your graduation. I also suggest you do a professional course in HR so that your experience is backed by qualification.

As you have been working for only about 1 and a half years, don't expect that companies will pay you huge salaries even if you are handling the entire HR department. Be patient and work your way upwards.

Best of luck.

Regards,
Preetam Deshpande.

Dear Preetam Deshpande,

Thanks for the advice. Obviously, growth is my priority. As you said, companies will not pay me huge salaries. I'm totally in agreement with you. But at least the company can pay me the standard salary. They are paying me below their standard. Even though I'm not on the payroll yet after working for a long period with the same organization.

But anyhow, as you suggested good advice, I should look into it. And I will stay with the company until I complete my graduation.

Thanks

Dear Vikas,

You must be thankful to your organization that they have given you the opportunity to work and learn while you are earning. Work very hard, my friend. Learn as much as you can as you are handling the department alone. Your main focus should be graduation and then any degree or diploma related to HR.

Wish you great luck ahead.

Warm Regards,
