I completed B.A. in Tourism and Travel Management (Regular). Presently, I am pursuing M.T.A (Master of Tourism Administration). Although I have plenty of opportunities, I am confused about selecting my career. My only doubt is which career path is the best - tour operator companies, airlines, or teaching.

Hi,

In my opinion, please start working rather than waste your time studying. The travel industry is not rocket science where you need to study so much. Just get started; experience will teach you what you need to know.

To have a wholesome experience of travel, you can join tour operator companies. They offer experience in all-round travel industry:

- Air Ticketing
- Cruise
- Land Travel
- Hotels
- Sightseeing
- MICE

You will learn to make itineraries, travel budgets, sales and marketing branding, and promotions. Over time, you will also get a chance to travel to exotic places, meet wonderful people, and make people happy by seeing them experience the wonderful world.

To enhance your profile, learn foreign languages such as French, German, Arabic, Spanish, etc. Aim for big names like Thomas Cook, Cox & Kings, SOTC, ITH, Carlson Wagon Lit, Raj, Akbar, Shreya, Kuoni.

Airline jobs will confine you to a desk job as a reservation clerk or give you a challenging profile of corporate/retail sales, running around the city convincing travel agents to sell your airline. Exposure is limited to the sectors you will be selling, with grilling targets and fiercely competing in the air travel market.

I can say I have represented three international airlines in my life; the experience was amazing and exhausting!

Teaching? How old are you, and how do you feel justified taking up teaching as your career at the start of your life? Build some experience, live some stories, see the world, and then later in your life, come back to teaching, reminiscing and sharing your days of glory and experience with young students. That will earn you more respect and satisfaction than just education transfer.

Think about it...
