Dear all HR,

I was just surfing the web and came across an interesting question. I am writing here to request that you give an answer without surfing the web or seeking help from others. Take a moment to think and write your response!

Question:

You are driving along in your car on a wild, stormy night. You pass by a bus stop, and you see three people waiting for the bus:

1. An old lady who looks as if she is about to die.
2. An old friend who once saved your life.
3. The perfect man or woman you have been dreaming about.

Which one would you choose to offer a ride to, knowing that there could only be one passenger in your car?

As a friend has already saved a life, he will be ready to help the old woman. Therefore, I will give the car keys to the friend so that he/she can take the lady to the hospital and be safe in the stormy night as he/she drives the car away. I can stay with the person I have been dreaming about. 😜

I will take the old lady in my car to the hospital and ask my friend and the perfect woman to come by bus to the hospital to extend their help in saving the old lady's life. My friend already saved my life; he is a helpful person, so he will likely support my decision. I will become the hero in the eyes of the perfect woman by helping the old lady, especially in front of her.

Dear all HR,

Thank you for your overwhelming response to my question. Congratulations to many of my friends who thought right. Below is the correct answer:

"The candidate who was hired out of 200 applicants had no trouble coming up with his answer. He simply said: 'I would give the car keys to my old friend and let him take the lady to the hospital. I would stay behind and wait for the bus with the woman of my dreams.'

Never forget to 'Think Outside of the Box.'

It's better to give the car keys to the girl or boy whom we have been dreaming about and ask him or her to take the old lady to the nearest hospital, and spend some time with your old friend... Because:

1. You can spend some time with your old indebted friend.
2. If you give the keys to your old friend and ask him to help the woman, the other person (whom we are dreaming about) may think that he or she is staying here to impress me. So, that person may try to avoid your company.
3. If you give the keys to the person, you will definitely get a second chance to meet him or her. And you already impressed her by helping the old lady. So the ball will be in your court then.

I fully agree with Vinuthhs' answer. When this type of question is asked in interviews, you have to start thinking laterally to find the correct answer. In this case, you have to satisfy everyone. That is why Vinuthhs' answer is very appropriate.

Well, what's the big deal to take all three of them at a time to drop them at the destination points if I can, as I am all alone in the car and can definitely accommodate all three of them.

Additionally, I have another answer: if the condition is that only two people can travel in the car, then my choice would be to give my car to my friend who saved my life and ask him to take the old lady to the hospital for medication. I would then walk alone with the person I have been dreaming about.

As an HR professional, I vote for the third option for the following reasons:

1. The old lady looks as if she is going to die. This option indicates a candidate who requires a job or is in need of a job.

2. An old friend who once saved your life. This option pertains to providing a reference.

3. The Perfect Man/Woman you have been dreaming about. This option signifies finding the right candidate who suits the current requirements.

Please let me know if you need further clarification or have any questions.

1. An old lady who looks as if she is about to die.
2. An old friend who once saved your life.
3. The perfect man or woman you have been dreaming about.

I could take the old lady in my car as a gesture of saving a senior citizen, but I can't leave two people in that storm. I could go away with the dream partner, but I cannot leave the old lady in that situation. I could give the lift to my old friend (male/female), but can't leave two ladies on the streets. So, I prefer my old friend to take that old lady to save her, and I will stay with my partner because I am sure that I will definitely become the shelter for him/her. I really can't expect this shelter part from them if I take any of the other two away from there.

In view of HR point - No. 1 is the potential for the company, and No. 2 is the old one, and he is a friend. A friend may not always be potential for the company.

Hi,

Our dream girl is at a bus stop. We can give her the car and help the old lady. While they are occupied, we can have a conversation with our friend. This presents an opportunity to potentially save our friend's life, as he often spends a lot of time at the bus stop.

Hi friends,

This is an HR site. Whatever type of question is asked, we all must reply in a way that any HR professional would. I fully agree with Mr. Akram85. The old lady needs the job very badly, but she doesn't deserve it because she is about to lose her years of service. The old friend is a symbol of some reference, so as a good HR professional, you should refuse to acknowledge or ignore the references. The lady or boy of your dreams shows that he or she is the right choice for the job; just pick him or her.

The interview panel consisted of wise HR persons who were in search of a true HR professional who always thinks in the way an HR should, not in an emotional way. They were indicating the employee profile through various situations. Do not just go by their words; try to understand their meanings. So, they are right in asking this question, and both I and Akram are right with our answer.

Hey dear,

My answer is...

I would get out of the car, offer my car to an old friend to drive, and have an old lady accompany them. I would then spend time with the perfect partner I have been dreaming about. They would all reach home safely, and we both would enjoy the time spent together and return home safely as well.

I would give the keys to my dream person to drive the old lady to the hospital to save her life. Meanwhile, I would enjoy with my friend who had saved my life once. By doing so, I aim to gain the goodwill of all three individuals.

PS: I am confident that the dream person would return alone for me.

I will advise my old friend who saved my life once to take and admit the old lady to the hospital, since it's his passion. I will use this time - until my old friend returns here - to talk to the perfect man I have been dreaming of meeting for a long time. Then, I will take this perfect man to his destination. Finally, I shall return to the same place to take my old friend.

Dear all HR,

I am just surfing the web and found an interesting question. I am writing here and I request that you give an answer without surfing the web or taking help from others. Just think once and write your answer!

Question -

You are driving along in your car on a wild, stormy night. You pass by a bus stop, and you see three people waiting for the bus:

1. An old lady who looks as if she is about to die.
2. An old friend who once saved your life.
3. The perfect man (or) woman you have been dreaming about.

Answer: An old friend who once saved my life.

Dear Yash Kumar,

I appreciate your question. One thing to remember is that a car has space for four members. I will ask all three of them to sit in the car. Firstly, I will take the old lady to the hospital and then drop off my friend who saved me. After that, I will spend time with my dream person once the two of them are dropped off.

I do not think we should assume that the car has space for four people. If it has space for only two people then what? The interviewers will look for your approach to the problem.

It's a good question about setting priorities and analytical thinking.

1. An old lady who looks as if she is about to die. So she must be in the car = First priority.

2. An old friend who once saved your life. According to the above, there is one option - me or the old friend to be available in the car. He saved my life before, so he saved the most important thing I have. I must have the same spirit. I will let him go with the lady and ask him to return back or provide assistance to the other when he reaches.

3. The perfect man or woman you have been dreaming about. The perfect man or woman will understand that spirit, maybe I will not have a chance to talk to her if I continue in my way.

Thanks, Yashkumar, for your question.

Thanks for your response, mba.syria. A management person should always think to resolve issues that would satisfy everyone. Since the lady needed urgent help and your friend had saved your life once, these are the two top priorities. The best way is to request your friend to take the old lady to the hospital by giving your car, and you (he or she) staying back to satisfy the loved one.
