In practice we are adopting theories X or / and Y partially depending upon the workforce’s psychology to their respective works.
But at times I found that none works that fruitfully, rather I combine them. Today I am applying theory x with one person and in next week I am to apply theory y to get my jobs done. The very psychology of work standard of a low paid worker flactuates very often. He remains bothered for everything arround him and his main attention is his family and his future. Thereby in a factory of readymade garments managing the labours demands a peculiar mode to control them and to make them working.
A labour is influenced by everything, I told. If he finds that the neighbour garments factory has increased salary of their labours, then he starts thinking that he is deprived here. Though that neighbour factory has made some big boom in business that’s why they could afford to increase the salary.
Most of the times in this forum we talk about the managerial matters related to office only. But it would be better if there are some aspects of labour management. Anybody has any bright idea, friends?

At times, I myself adopt some different practices.
While walking around in the workers' arena, get hold of anyone and ask him a different type of question, like how do you find the present political situation? Do you think that the ruling party will come into power next time as well? He will have an answer with widened eyes (as you, the boss, have asked him the question, and you will notice some of his coworkers working but also listening in on your conversation). Now, ask him why he thinks this way. He will provide his explanation. Give a thoughtful look towards him and simply tell him that he has made a good assessment. Then, leave that place. (Be careful in choosing the person to whom you are posing the question).
Whenever you are talking to them, start with a smile. It alleviates almost 80% of the agony.
Be very attentive to their problems and respect their issues as if they were your own. Be prompt in solving any of their personal crises. This will boost their confidence in you.
Be very cautious when dealing with female workers. They are the most sensitive members of your entire office. Never engage in one-on-one conversations with any female worker; ensure that 2-3 people are around you at that time. It will be beneficial.
Ensure maternity leave for the women workers.
Pay special attention to the school exams of the workers' children, especially the SSC and HSC. You may announce incentives for the children of workers who achieve good results.
We follow many more techniques like these. Do you think these are helpful? We are seeing positive outcomes from adhering to these norms.
Do you have any more techniques?

No theory can work with everybody to the same degree anyway because there is nothing that is universally and perennially true. Sometimes one theory may work with somebody at one time and may not work with the same person at another time. One has to use one's discretion and discrimination as mentioned in our shastras. "One man's meat is another man's poison" applies more to psychology than anything else.

Dear Sir,
I am an HR manager of 2250 employees, trying all possibilities to improve my HR climate. We have a workers' referral program, birthday celebrations, and all other good HR programs. We are WRAP certified. However, we still experience a 50% attrition rate at the year-end. There are more openings in and around our area, with many factories in Tirupur experiencing double the attrition rate we have. It is common for a tailor from one company to work in another company in the afternoon.
Even after implementing all possible measures, absenteeism ranges from 10% to 18%. Employees want to attend work daily, but they struggle to prioritize their work over personal issues. I am currently focusing on addressing this challenge.
I hope this discussion will continue in the coming days.

I am not formally from HR, but some examples that I read in the wonderful book "First, Break All the Rules" may help you. It talks about how people in menial jobs are motivated. For example, the best bartender was a person who could remember the names and drinks of 3000 customers and was publicly honored. Similarly, the best housekeeper, nurse, or data entry operator excel when the root problem is addressed. Money and prestige usually serve as effective motivators. Unfortunately, we lack the same dignity of labor that exists in the United States.
