We are operating a textile processing unit in Kerala. It is in a beginning stage.

In this connection, it may be verified and confirmed that the Minimum Wages (Kerala) are applicable to this industry.

Explanation of our operation:

We are collecting knitted cotton fabric from knitters or garment manufacturers, and the same will be bleached/washed with the help of machines and required chemicals. The finished product will be delivered to the sender itself. Essentially, it is a job work, and we are pricing it based on weight (kg basis). Our customers/senders are from Tamil Nadu.

1. Please clarify if the minimum wages provisions under Kerala are applicable to this industry?

2. It is also observed that minimum wages are notified for the handloom industry, textile manufacturing industry, and hosiery/garment manufacturing industry. What is the status in this regard?

Please assist us in obtaining an authentic opinion.

Hi, As far as my knowledge is concerned, minimum wages are not applicable to Bleaching industry/ garments industry in Kerala. If you got better clarity now, please let me know Regards PT Ramesh
