Perhaps the problem is that "critical incident" is also a description those of us in the human service area use to describe a traumatic incident, such as an industrial accident, a crime situation, a violent act witnessed by people. The critical incident then has a critical incident response person who works with witnesses and perhaps victims to help them process the situation for a more positive result in terms of mental and physical health.

Some doubt the validity of this process, but actually, it is of significant help for those working long-term with people involved. Hope this helps.
