Hi all,

This is Anoop. I am working for a web development company recently established by my friends. I am a law graduate. I am dealing with legal matters like tax filing, registration of tax accounts. Also, I am dealing with financial aspects of the company like keeping in contact with company banks, maintaining accounts, preparing account statements, invoices, etc.

Now, I am a little confused about my position in the company. The company is going to provide visiting cards and letterheads for me. As my employers are new to the business field, they are also a bit confused about my position. So please suggest an apt name for my position.

Regards,
Anoop S.J.

Hi Anoop,

In our company, the Manager of Accounts performs all the tasks you mentioned above, such as tax filing and tax account registration, which I assume you refer to as legal activities. This role is primarily focused on accounting. Therefore, the most suitable title would be Unit Accounts In-charge/Manager.

I would also recommend the title Specialist: Accounts and Legal Liaison for this position.

Thank you for all your suggestions. I would like to inform you of one more thing. I am also planning to address the company's legal issues in the future. Therefore, a position title suitable for that function would be beneficial. Could you kindly suggest some options?

Hi Anoop,

As per your level in the company's hierarchy, you can choose from the following options:
- Assistant Manager (Accounts and Law)
- Deputy Manager (Accounts and Law).

Before finalizing anything, please review the designation mentioned in your appointment letter. This is crucial. Remember, a business card is not just for show; it reflects your role in the company.

Thank you.

I would like to suggest a change to your designation. Your position within the company reflects your work and status, making it crucial to discuss with management. I propose designating you as "Manager/Head - Accounts & Legal."

Hi all,

Thanks a lot for your precious suggestions. From all your opinions, I arrived at a conclusion that the position name can be 'Manager-Legal & Finance'. Please give your own opinions about this name and how well it suits my profile. To include 'accounts' in the position name, I believe qualifications involving commerce may be needed. That's why I am using the word 'finance'. Please share your opinions. Everything I have mentioned is based on my knowledge, which may not be entirely correct. Therefore, the opinions of experienced individuals like you are more valuable.

Anoop
