Hi Please tell whether to affix revenue stamp in my rent receipt for Rs 2500 per month. and also please tell me what is the maximum amount upto which Revenue stamp is not necessary in a receipt

i think that u wnat to have a receipt for rent which has to be submitted for IT/ any other purpose. the matter should be on a ledger folio paper or otherwise on a white paper. after the completion of the matter. it should bear the revenue stamp other wise it would be of no use.
you have to stick the revenue stamp on right side corner of the page and half of the signature should be on the stamp and remaining on the paper
as regards ur value of receipt it is ok if it is Re1/ stamp.

Hi Kartik, Upto Rs. 500 is exempted to affix revenue stamp in rent receipt or any other things that you paid in your day to day expenses. beyond this, it is mandatory to affix the same. regds- ranjan

In view of the amendment of Schedule I, to the Indian Stamp Act 1899, the one-rupee stamp is required to be affixed on any receipt, the amount or value of which exceeds Rs 5,000. This amendment has come w.e.f. 10.09.04. The stamp is required to be affixed in respect of receipt which has been defined as under in Section 2(23) of the aforesaid Act.
