A multistate society is registered under the Central Registry, but its operations are carried out in Kerala and Tamil Nadu. Is it necessary to have a license in Kerala or Tamil Nadu? If yes, what are those licenses?

Such societies are only constituted under a Central agency. But when they work in states, all licences and registrations under different state Acts are mandatory if they want to operate business in the respective state. Accordingly, they should take Registration under the Kerala/ TN Shops and Commercial Establishments Act. They should take trade licence from the respective LSGs also. They have to follow the holidays as applicable to any unit in the state. Even though they can have a common registration under EPF and ESI, at least for ESi they should take subcodes in for the branches in the states. Besides, in respect of employees deployed in the states, the state minimum wages as applicable to the industry/ scheduled employment should be followed.
