Hi,

Being HOD's of two different departments Production Manager and HR Head are Peers actually, Both work for the growth of the Organisation. Administratively you both should be reporting to the CEO / President of the Company. But reporting system differ from Organisation to Organisation.

Your question who is Superior depends on your Management. Normally Management use to assign some Seniors as Location In-charge based on Seniority, age and experience. In general in most of the Companies Operations/Production Department Head will be given more priority as the revenue for the company depends on their work but not necessarily same in all Organisation.

Hi, in some companies, the Head of HR will report to the Operations Head or Production Manager. Surely management will have more Favours with Production Heads. It is suggested to go through his file and understand his role and responsibilities. Better if you start developing a good cordial relationship with him, thereby your ego barriers will wash out. You will work together as a team for the company's work.

This type of questions keep arising almost all establishments no matter how big or small it may be. As a HR Head you understand the hierarchy of your Co. who reports to whom. Much would depend on your cadres, salary, levels/grades etc. You are in two different cadres. One should not develop a mind who is superior or inferior. It's important that HR maintains good working relationship on day-to-day basis. There may be occasions there arose tiff between colleagues working in different streams, mainly egoistic like I'm superior, senior etc. Especially HR sometimes carry grudge against others and try to do whatever possible to bring disrepute to the other, putting spokes in their career path, spoil their chances etc misusing free approach with CEO, COO etc. HR should keep in mind a basic thing that is they are in support services to production team and do everything possible to maintain cool, cordial relationship with others. No production no revenue no pay no Co can exist. Some may even threaten with dire consequences. That approach is not good for the organisation. An affront HR team never desired.
