I have submitted my last 3-month salary slip. Now they want the last 6 months' bank statement. I provided them my 6-month bank statement, but I blacked out all other transactions because I don't want to disclose my personal transactions. Can the company force me to show all other transactions? If they force me, what should I tell you? This is a very big MNC. Is it ethical for them to force me to show all transactions?

What is the purpose? Is it just to know the salary earned from the past company? Or is it to understand how much should be the TDS that should be deducted for the remaining period of FY 2022-23?

A company that relies on employees' bank statements to determine the past salary drawn, TDS, or any other matter without trusting the statements provided by the employee is not a good place to work. Therefore, choose a different alternative to join.

    When you get shortlisted by a new employer to negotiate your salary, they typically check your past salary details for which you have submitted a 3-month payslip. If the employer is not convinced of the authenticity of the payslip provided (as nowadays candidates tend to cleverly edit payslips to secure higher salaries), the employer will then request a 6-month bank statement, preferably in PDF format. The reason they insist on a statement with other transactions is to ensure that even the bank statement has not been manipulated. I have personally witnessed many cases where false payslips/bank statements were provided. Small or mid-sized organizations may not have the time to conduct background verification and rely solely on these documents. If what you have submitted is truthful, there should be no fear in disclosing all transactions. The payslip/bank statement will simply go into your personal file after verification and will not be used for any other purpose.

  • You can ask form bank for particular name transaction. In net banking there is option you can download for particular name, amount and period. If so company will accept it without any doubts.

    I'm doing part-time work which is USA-based. (No offer letter, No PF, No ESI, No ITR). They usually pay 23,000-25,000 rupees every month for part-time. And for a full-time job, my salary is 22,200. So every month, the bank statement will show 2 credits very close together. They may question why I am doing part-time work. That's why I want to hide other statements. What should I do?

    In that case, you can submit a bank statement with all transactions, highlighting your primary salary credit. Most employers will not show much interest in other transactions. However, in case of any such questions, you can present them as some personal income transactions belonging to the family.

    I also collect bank statements from candidates. We are only concerned about the authenticity of the current salary and not about other personal transactions of the candidates.
