Recently, I received an offer letter from TCS. Background verification is pending. However, I forgot to mention 2-4 months of employment details to TCS. I have the offer letter and experience letter from that job as I had to leave it due to medical reasons. I was hired based on 3 years of work experience, which I did inform TCS about. Additionally, I have shared my UAN number with TCS, which displays my previous employment details.

Could someone please advise if they have encountered a similar situation as an employee or HR professional? Will the company update my short-term job details once they discover them, or will they fail my background verification due to this issue?

A prospective employee is expected to furnish all information that is true in the Employment Application form of any prospective Employer. You might have noticed in the Employment Application form of any company that, "I hereby declare that whatever information I have furnished in this Application form is true and correct to the best of my knowledge and belief." When you sign under this declaration in the Application form, it means you have furnished every true and correct information. At a later date, if the company discovers that you have suppressed some information, the management/HR may raise their eyebrows about your integrity as a prospective candidate.

How have you just noticed this omission now?

You should have checked and double-checked your employment application BEFORE you sent it. Surely, there is no one in India now who is unaware of the fact that a background check is very likely to unearth every single thing about your life. The need for scrupulous honesty should be ingrained into everyone's mind by now - especially when it comes to employment.

The time to have fixed this problem was as soon as you discovered it, not when the background check is underway and will discover the discrepancy. I would suggest you deal with this immediately with HR at TCS.

One of the things many employers look for - and most certainly I did when I was in the workforce - is attention to detail. You have failed that test.

To everyone else reading this, check your CV/Resume's NOW, and make sure every minute of your employment history is fully documented, and where possible make sure you have adequate evidence, ready to produce if and when required. Likewise with any gaps in your history. They need to be accounted for.
