This interpretation exists that a heart attack is also an accident for which compensation is payable, provided the heart attack could be causally linked to the nature of the job done by the deceased employee, the stress and strain of it. In certain instances, it has been held that if the employee had a previous medical history and it was the second or subsequent heart attack, then compensation is not payable. However, it is a dicey situation, and much depends on how the case is put up. Indeed, on one occasion where an employee while on tour had suffered and succumbed to a heart attack while being at the railway platform at an outstation, we had paid Workmen's compensation.
