Hi! Please advise, if an organization covered under shops and establishment act wants employees to work on 15th August. Is it mandatory to pay employees double the wages along with a compensatory off or either of these needs to be given?

Dear, For working on national holiday you need to follow the state rules, where they are working. Off-course you need to follow National & Festival holiday act. Thanks & Regards

The national holiday is the paid holiday, meaning the employee will be on off duty and yet he will get the salary for that day.
If He works on national holiday means he has earned a days salary, Plus the holiday to be given on some other day or be paid in lieu. Thus if an employees works on holiday he has to be paid in double the rate per day.
