Dear All,
We are involved in the manufacturing of confectionery and are registered with ESI and PF as a proprietary firm. Now, we have started another unit and are attempting to register under ESI and PF with the same PAN, as we remain a proprietary firm. ESI has allotted a code number, but EPF is displaying a message indicating that the PAN is already linked to another establishment.
Could anyone please guide me on how to register under EPF?
Thank you.

Hi Hanuma,
Please provide some more details - Have you registered the second unit in the same name or a different name? Is your branch dealing in the same business? Are both units located in the same place? How about your GST and PT registrations? Are you accounting and assessing transactions in the one and only firm for IT returns?
Thank you.

Hi Kumar Sir,
Thank you for your reply. We have registered our unit with the same name but added Unit II. Both are in different locations. We are dealing with the same business. GST and PT registrations are different.
Please await your reply.

Hanuma

Understood that GST shall be different for other branches under the same registered name, PAN, being the same as Proprietorship firm.
I think as a proprietorship firm, you will not be allotted more than one PAN. Having opened more than one unit, you can file one consolidated Accounts & IT Returns as an assessee based on one PAN. Similarly, EPF also can be in a similar system. Since UAN has been introduced with a view to cover all transactions of an employee under one EPF/UAN Account wherever they shift, regardless of the employer. In your case, there is a possibility that one employee can be transferred to your other units/branches anytime. This kind of multiple job changes resulted in the opening of multiple EPF accounts, one with each employer. Therefore, with the UAN, each EPFO member can consolidate multiple accounts into one single account. Now, whenever an employee is transferred from one branch to another, they will be able to see their passbook statement or PF transactions at the same place based on UAN details.
Regarding remittances and filing returns for EPF, EPFO has provided certain guidelines which are attached for your reference and guidance. I hope this information helps you to resolve the issues.

(Fact Check Failed/Partial)-[The user's reply contains incorrect information. In the case of EPF registration for multiple units under the same PAN for a proprietary firm, each establishment should have a separate EPF registration. The EPFO does not allow multiple units under the same PAN to be linked to one EPF registration. It is essential to obtain separate EPF registrations for each unit, even if they share the same PAN. This ensures compliance with EPF regulations and facilitates accurate record-keeping and contributions for each establishment. Please proceed with obtaining individual EPF registrations for each unit to adhere to EPF requirements.]
One proprietor one code for epf. You can add on your various units for other units in other states you can open sub codes.

(Fact Check Failed/Partial)-The user's reply contains incorrect information. It is important to note that being registered as a contract labor or manpower supply is different from being a proprietary firm. The user should review the correct registration category and process for their business structure.

(Fact Checked)-The issue of not being able to register under EPF with the same PAN due to it being linked to another establishment can be resolved by submitting a request for PAN correction in EPF. This can be done by contacting the EPFO office or using the employer's portal for corrections. Thank you for your inquiry. (1 Acknowledge point)
Hi, You can use the same PF code for the new Unit as well or if need be can apply for PF sub code.
