One of our employees passed away in a road accident after completing his duty and while returning from the company to his home. He had been working with us for only two months.
In this case, is he eligible for a PF death claim? Please provide me with the details and information on eligibility.

Though the PF accumulation available will be less, based on the contributions, his dependents will get monthly Pension from EPFO. Moreover, they will also get EDLI (Employees' Deposit Linked Insurance) for which the length of service is not a criterion. If the deceased member's UAN is linked to Aadhar, then a simple composite form is available. Along with this form, page 5 of the pension claim form (Form 10D), being a descriptive roll of each person eligible to get a pension in duplicate, shall also be submitted through the employer.

If the death has taken place during working hours, you have to inform the appropriate authorities, i.e., Inspector of Factories and Boilers, Inspector of Plantations, Mines, or Labour Officer, as the case may be. If the employee was covered by ESI, naturally, you should send the report to ESI as well. It is also good if you involve the Police, and it is mandatory if the death is unnatural. The papers relating to EDLI, PF, and Pension can be submitted in due course.
