Dear Sir,
I just wanted to know the rights of an ex-employee for visiting premises or a company-owned store after he/she has left the job. Can a store manager or the company ban an ex-employee from visiting the place under any condition? I believe it is the property of the company, and as an outlet of the Tata Group of Companies, they cannot prohibit anyone from visiting the place.

Every place of business where products are sold or services are rendered to the general public is a public place. Therefore, anyone who intends to conduct a business transaction as a consumer cannot be denied entry into the premises unless their behavior is violent or they are under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Being a former employee is not a valid reason to prohibit entry into a store owned by the employer.

Dear Ankita Tripathi,
If the Store Manager has prohibited the entry of the ex-employee, then did you check why he imposed a ban on the entry of the ex-employee? Why did the employee leave the company? Was it a normal separation, or does it have some negative connotation?
If the Store Manager does not wish any ex-employee in his/her store, then he/she should report the case to HR. During the separation process, the employee should be clearly informed of the duration for which he/she cannot visit the store. This would bring clarity.
Nevertheless, an ex-employee can also be a customer, and company authorities cannot impose a ban on their visit unless there are compelling reasons to do so.
Thanks,
