Hai,
Put about 100 bricks in some particular order in a closed Room with an open window.
Then send 2 or 3 candidates in the room and close the door.
Leave them alone and come back after 6 hours and then analyze the situation.
If they are counting the bricks - Put them in the accounts department.
If they are recounting them.. Put them in auditing .
If they have messed up the whole place with the bricks. Put them in engineering.
If they are arranging the bricks in some strange order. Put them in planning.
If they are throwing the bricks at each other. Put them in operations ..
If they are sleeping. Put them in security.
If they have broken the bricks into pieces. Put them in Information Technology.
If they are sitting idle. Put them in human resources.
If they say they have tried different combinations, yet not a brick has been moved. Put them in sales.
If they have already left for the day. Put them in marketing.
If they are staring out of the window. Put them on strategic planning.
And then last but not least.
If they are talking to each other and not a single brick has been moved.
Congratulate them and put them In top management.

Mukesh.

GREAT STATEMENTS ND CONCLUSIONS EXCEPT ONE. BUT ONE VERY BIG QUESTION I HAVE. WHY IS THE "HR"- STATED AS "IDLE"??
DO U THINK IN THE CHANGING PHASE OF DEFINITION OF HR ND IMPORTANT CONTRIBUTIONS MADE BY AN HR IN THE STRATEGIC BUSINESS WORLD OF 2DA, THIS DEFINITION OF URS - "HR- Idle" is really appropriate?? Isnt it we ourselves R NOT ABLE 2 RESPECT OUR POSITION BY COMMENTING IN THIS MANNER?? THEN HOW CAN WE EXPECT THE OTHER EMPLOYEES 2 RESPECT US AS "HR's" IN OUR OWN ORGANIZATIONS :?: :?: :?: :?:

Hi Sharmistha,
Guess the statement was very light hearted and request you to please take it in the same manner.
The world know our importance in building up and running organizations. Hence there is no chance for a single statement to ruin our importance.
Believe me, HR RULZ !!!

I guess the statement that HR sits idle must be taken very light heartedly. The problem for others is that HR is the king/queen- (no gender bias intended) because it formulates policies and does not require going out in the fields like sales people.
Administrators are often accused of idleness and this so called idleness is what HR earns because of its nature of job and of performing highly commendable task- that of thinking for others in one place.
WE ARE IDLE FOR THE BENEFIT OF OTHERS AND SEE WHAT HAS HAPPENED WITH SHRM... Now that HR has started getting so active that it has begun to find place in board rooms too, others are silently praying - it would have been better had HR sat idle like before.
Change time folks...Time for IDEAL BEHAVIOUR AND EXAMPLE.

i dont agree with you. hr --- idle? donot be so rude.
i am not concerned with other departments but if i m not mistaken hr plays a very pivot role these days and lies in the heart of every organization. they have a pioneer role to play by emporing into the business polies and forming a compliance with the startagic advantage by recruiting talent so that organizational goals and objectives can be acomplished in a better way.
but was interesting. i learnt new ways to judege the potential of a person by using brick philosophy. :D
