Hi,

Actually, I have an offer from TCS, and my last working day is this week. Recently, I got selected for a very good company, but they are giving me a start date after one month due to a lengthy background check process.

I am considering whether it would be worthwhile to wait for a month after resigning from my current position or if I should join TCS and then resign after a few days, as the notice period during the probation period is just one month.

Thank you.

Joining TCS yet continuing in earlier employment is an unethical practice and is not endorsed at all. You should not entertain such thoughts and follow the path that is straight and honest. In the long run of life, one month of service won't really matter, but it should not leave a guilty conscience throughout your life.

Hi KK! HR,

I did not mean to imply that I will be joining TCS while still working at my current employer. My predicament is that my last working day is on 09 December, and my joining date at TCS is 11 December. However, I have received a very good offer from another company that requires me to start a month later due to their background check process. I am contemplating joining TCS for one month and then transitioning to the other company (since TCS has a one-month notice period during the probation period).

I am concerned about the potential impact this decision may have on my career. Do you have any suggestions or insights on this matter?

Thank you.

Dear Sonu,

There is a limit to being self-centered. Already, you have been selected by TCS. I hope you have accepted their offer. Disregarding the acceptance of the offer would leave TCS in a lurch. You do not want to just stop at that; as the new company will offer employment after a month, you intend to join TCS only to leave them after a month. This will help you in maintaining a monthly cash flow.

You may engage in these machinations, but have you ever thought about what it takes to select the right candidate? Because of your selfish motive, all the efforts of TCS's recruiters will go in vain!

If you leave TCS after a month, you would be ditching TCS doubly. Yes, you may do that, but then please remember that life is too long, and possibly someone in the future may ditch you not just doubly but triply as well. At that time, you should not grumble.

Ethics demand joining TCS as committed to them. Nothing is as bad as reneging on one's commitment. TCS is a big brand, and there will be great opportunities to grow.

Thanks,
Dinesh Divekar
