There is an employee whose probation period is about to get over in a week. He has already told us that he will be resigning in the first quarter next year. Should he still be getting his confirmation letter which is due next week?
My understanding is that he should. But, just want to confirm.

Follow the laid-down protocol. His resignation is verbal information only. If he completes probation in between, a confirmation letter would be in order if everything is fine; otherwise, his overall suitability will be assessed. The notice period after confirmation would be different, and the resignation can be processed as per rules when he actually gives written notice of resignation.

The employer issues the confirmation letter only on satisfactory completion of the prescribed probationary period stated in the appointment letter. This letter is issued on the last day of the probation period or the day following. Tendering or submitting a resignation application or letter after the confirmation letter has been issued is a separate situation from the resignation application or letter during the ongoing probation period. After confirmation, a notice period must be given, whereas resignation during probation is without any notice period. Be guided accordingly.
