If there is a financial crunch, you have no choice but to accept a lower position. However, your abilities may be noticed, and the company will upgrade you (hopefully). Don't get demotivated, as a gap of 6 years is quite a long period, and the world has changed significantly, making jobs scarce. Pick up work-related knowledge and look around. After some time, you will catch up and may land a better position or a better-paying job.

Now the industry outlook has changed, and many organizations do recruit experienced professionals in a suitable role. You can also research some opportunities provided by organizations like TATA's, wherein they have specific programs meant for bringing women back into mainstream activity who were on maternity break.
