Dear Literate colleagues,
Hello,
I have a query regarding the Internal Complaints Committee for Sexual Harassment. For an industry, is it compulsory to include a member from a non-governmental organization? We are restructuring the committee, and as per the act, the committee members need to be changed periodically. Will it be mandatory to include a lady member from any NGO?
Please kindly guide in this regard.
Thanking you

Dear Literate Friend,
Not necessarily a lady member from any NGO, but you can have a male member from an NGO or an advocate who has dealt with issues related to sexual harassment. I am from Mumbai, a practicing advocate as well as a member of an NGO. I have been appointed by many corporates as an external member on their IC. I do conduct awareness programs for employees and training workshops for IC members.

Dear Friend,
A member from among non-governmental organizations or associations committed to the cause of women, or a person familiar with issues relating to sexual harassment, would be ideal. It would be better if a lady member from an NGO or legal background, having experience in dealing with issues related to sexual harassment, but it is not a compulsion.

Dear Literate Friend,
It is not necessary for the member to be a lady from any industrial workplace; a male member from an industrial workplace or an advocate who has dealt with issues related to sexual harassment can also be suitable.
I am from Mumbai, practicing as an advocate and also a member of an industrial workplace. I have been appointed by many corporates as an external member on their Internal Committee (IC). I conduct awareness programs for employees and training workshops for IC members.
