Many new HR professionals have asked me a common question: Can we have a PowerPoint presentation on labor laws with updated information on the amendments? Many of them call me and seek advice over the phone as well. Recently, a student from a business school who had attended my sessions for their Certificate Program on Personnel Management and Industrial Relations, which the college had offered to students pursuing an MBA in HR as an add-on course, contacted me and requested an updated version of the PowerPoint presentations.

In reality, like any other student, this individual should have attended the sessions with an academic mindset, understanding that they would not receive any credits or grades for their university examinations. Consequently, they may not have stored the materials properly. However, after securing a job in the HR department of a manufacturing company where the workers and union leaders are well-informed about changes in labor laws, they should have recognized the importance of the program they missed during their campus days.

Indeed, the program comprised five modules, with Labor Law being one of them. This module provided an overview of the various laws relevant to HR professionals, along with case study materials. Since the modules belong to me and the individual who conducted the sessions is also mine, I can easily share them with the members of citehr. Before commencing the sessions, though, I would like to determine whether the sessions will yield any results and, if so, how to proceed. I believe that sharing one PowerPoint presentation per week, featuring a few laws and supporting case laws or discussions on citations, will be sufficient. This is envisioned as an interactive program where we can seek assistance from our knowledgeable members.

I look forward to receiving feedback. The attached document contains the program content.

Please find the first session PowerPoint presentation. I would like to request all of you to share your valuable experiences in your respective functional areas so that the session can be more interactive. This will provide us with insights into state Acts, state rules, and any amendments. I have included Kerala Acts where there are no corresponding Central Acts.

The first set of slides is all about the basic Acts which provide for the registration of factories, plantations, or shops and commercial establishments and the action to be taken by us to ensure the health, safety, and welfare of the workers/employees working therein. The objective of these Acts remains the same, i.e., ensuring the health, safety, and welfare of workers.

Now let us see the Acts which define the relationship between the employer and the employees and the conditions of service of the workers.

In the third session, I have included rules relating to the payment of minimum wages to workers, the manner in which it should be given, and rules pertaining to the payment of allowances to those who are under suspension. I request all of you to share your thoughts so that the session would become active.

Please find the PowerPoint presentation on Provident Fund and Labour/Workers' Welfare Fund. There are quite a large number of welfare funds, each one for each category of workers. I have taken the welfare funds in Kerala for this session.
