Can Hospital hire workers on daily wages basis? What are the statutory benefits applicable to these workers? Any criteria about their tenure?

In any organization, daily wagers can be engaged in works of a casual, intermittent, or incidental nature. However, engaging any workman continuously, as well as significantly, for longer periods would automatically imply that the works are of a regular nature. This continuous engagement could be seen as a tactic to deny the workman the status of a regular employee within the organization. Such actions would amount to unfair labor practices under the Industrial Disputes Act of 1947. This would also confer all the service rights and benefits on such daily wage workers.

Dear colleague,

Keeping the aspect of unfair practice in mind as stated above, you can engage daily-rated workers in the hospital provided you pay them minimum wages as applicable.
