A group or association consisting of only two members, formed in any industry, may be called a trade union or not. It is okay that it can't be registered under the Act, but the simple question is whether it may be called a trade union.

Dear Rajneesh,

The purpose or objective of that group or association, irrespective of the number of people therein, would alone determine whether it can be called a trade union or not. If you form a group of blood donors in the industry, can it be called a trade union?

Dear Rajneesh,

Always try to go by the definition. If things appear as per the definition, then only can they be considered; otherwise, no. Mr. Umakanthan has rightly replied, and one needs to use their brain.

Dear colleague,

As per the Trade Union Act, in order to form a trade union, you must have a minimum of 7 members from the establishment. Only two persons from two associations cannot be considered a trade union.
