Hello all, I have been given an assignment for helping the employees who are send for the official purpose to foreign assignment. Please provide your inputs in the same. Thanks and Regards Mohit

Foreign travel involves : purpose of travel ie any conference or meeting or training. For conference and training, there may be payments involved to the organiser. This is followed by travel arrangements such as visa, ticketing, stay at hotel, etc. If big amounts are involved, then the employee has to execute a bond, especially after a major training, that he will work for the company for a certain period of time, so that the knowledge learnt is used in the company. This is the substance for foreign travel assignment.

Besides what learned member above has mentioned, briefing to the member about dos and donts in foreign nation, customs rules etc so that your company official visitor does not unwittingly get in trouble for unknowing violation of rules.
Etiquette towards women, officials etc can be found out and informed to travelling official.

I did not purposely indicate the etiquette aspect of the travel as the person who posed the query seems to be too junior or too young to know about these aspects. There are a lot of DOs and DONT's in respect of cultural etiquette, dining etiquette, meeting etiquette and also a shopping etiquette applicable to different countries. The topic is quite vast and wide and I have attempted to give him a brief intro into the Phase I of his requirement ! I feel it is the responsibility of the traveler himself to get apprised of these aspects well in advance !

Sundaram Sir,
I raised this point because many of our travellers go abroad and fall afoul of laws/etiquette and bring bad name to us.
Some of our travellers violate law unknowingly but think the police can be managed there and get into further trouble.

So it is better to brief people going abroad, specially if it is first time.
List of drugs-Common drugs OTH in India but can be objected in some countries are an example.

I fully appreciate your views. No two opinions about. Considering the way in which the person posed the query, I had my own doubts about the intent of the query ! I conduct training on cross-cultural communication barriers in doing successful business. As you rightly said, it is the duty of the organisation to brief the traveller on these aspects, especially first-timers. I have myself travelled to Singapore, Malaysia and also Saudi, Dubai, Muscat etc. In fact, am in Doha, Qatar for the second time in four months and this time I will be there for one full month. It is a challenge to accept the cultures of other countries and mingle with them properly, respecting their sentiments and feelings !
