Dear Freinds and Seniors, Maharashtra shops and establishment act is now out and it is implicated since 19th December,2017. Attached herewith new act copy and implementation letter.
I think that for the state of Maharashtra, there is the Bombay Shops and Commercial Establishments Act, which provides for the service conditions of employees working in shops, etc. What is the significance of this new Act with a new title? Is it scrapped or still in effect?

The Bombay Shops and Establishments Act is now known as the Maharashtra Shops & Establishments Act with some modifications in provisions of the old act. Therefore, the Bombay Shops & Establishment Act is no longer in existence.

Yes as right said by Mr. Sasikumar now Maharashtra shops act will replace bombay shops act and also going to be expanded all across Maharashtra which was not completely available earlier.
Normally, whenever a new Act is passed with the intention of replacing another Act, the same will be mentioned in the new Act. That is why I raised the question. Another thing is that still on the website there is the Bombay Shops Act, though in the title, it is the Maharashtra Shops Act.

Dear Shri Madhu,
Yes, your observation is correct. However, sec. 39 of the new Act (the Maha. Shops Act) states that from the date of the commencement of this Act, the Maharashtra Shops and Establishments Act shall stand repealed. In my view, it should be the Bombay Shops and Establishment Act that stands repealed. This may be a clerical error.

There is no clerical error. The word 'Bombay' in a large number of Acts has been replaced by the word 'Maharashtra' by an amendment Act long back.
The Rules framed by the Govt under the new 2017 Act are not available on the website. How can the Govt make the Act effective from 19.12.2017 without the Rules in place? If anyone has a copy of the same, please share.
Thanks
