Dear Sir,

I have been working in my organization for the last 4 years and am also covered under ESI. I am currently six months pregnant and have some queries regarding maternity leave:

1. Will I receive my full salary or a percentage of my salary for 26 weeks?
2. Who is responsible for paying my salary during my maternity leave, my employer, or ESI?
3. Can I reimburse my hospital bills from a private hospital that is not covered under ESI?

Thank you for your assistance.

Hi Chitrali,

Answers specifically to your question are:

1. Will I get my full salary or some percentage of my salary for 26 weeks?
You will receive 100% of your average daily salary.

2. Who will be responsible for paying my salary, my employer, or ESI?
ESIC will directly credit your salary to your account. They will require your account details along with the medical slip issued by the doctor for leave processing. You must submit these at the ESI office in your area.

3. Can I reimburse my hospital bill from a private hospital not covered under ESI?
No, unless you are referred to a private hospital by ESI doctors, no reimbursement claims will be entertained.
